Mother’s Finest is a funk rock band founded in Atlanta, Georgia by Joyce Kennedy and Glenn Murdock in the early 1970s. Mother’s Finest are notable partly because they are an ‘interracial’ rock group from the US South. Their music was a blend of funky rhythm, heavy metal, gospel, jazz and expressive R&B singing taken directly from the street to the stage and studio. For the remainder of the 1970s, Mother’s Finest became the most dangerous opening act in rock, blowing away headliners like Aerosmith, Frank Marino and Ted Nugent. Their biggest hit-single “Baby Love” is still the most brilliant merging of soul + funk + metal! True innovators!!!
